Tiger Inn Membership Endowment

Dear Members of Tiger Inn,

A gift to the Tiger Inn Membership Endowment provides a brighter picture for our future. Our endowment fund allows us to preserve the Tiger Inn we know, while fueling the Tiger Inn we know we can be. Two recent trends have made the formation of an endowment for Tiger Inn more critical than ever:

  • First, demographics of the Princeton student body have changed dramatically over the past decade. The percentage of Pell-Grant eligible families has tripled from 8% to 24%. This spring, Tiger Inn accepted less than a quarter of those who Bickered, so we want to make sure that the members who signed-in can afford to remain in the club through graduation. The principal purpose of our endowment will be to provide the maximum financial aid possible to all students in need of support.
  • Secondly, inflation has made capital expenditures more costly than ever. Your Annual Giving donations help cover day-to-day maintenance of the club, but every year we seem to have a number of structures or systems that crumble, blow up or just stop working. Recently, the front wall crumbled, the steamer in the kitchen quite literally blew up and the HVAC stopped working. Plus the front of the Club required a complete landscape overhaul. All in, that cost the club nearly $200,000, which had to be taken out of our operating budget. We want to be sure that our terrific membership has the use of a terrific clubhouse!

I want to be clear that Financial Aid is the top priority for our new endowment. Any endowment interest that is not used will be reinvested to help our principal stay ahead of inflation. So please, help us reach our $6.5MM goal as soon as possible! We are currently at $4.35MM between gifts and pledges, thanks to the tireless efforts of the Development Committee led by Andy Cowherd ’74. Now it is TIME for you to join in and push us over the finish line! Thank you for supporting the ever-glorious Tiger Inn!

Gratefully,

Hap Cooper ’82
